New Projects and Fabrics

Yes...we are Downton Abbey fans too, but didn't get too carried away with the line of fabric and chose a couple of the colors to focus on.  The era of 1920's is a bit 'modern' for us....

But then again, sometimes modern is just the way we like it.  This grey and buttery yellow is so nice, I'm ready for spring!

As always, we love working with Judie's prints - we even included the toile print as an option in the toile challenge project!  Solids are modern...AND...remember, before the term modern quilting was coined...solids were used in traditional quilts - the amish influence is a timeless quilting style and we appreciate the loan of this little hand quilted treasure.  Thanks Laura!!

Valentines And Presidents

As we prepare to celebrate Presidents Day...we thought we'd share a few of our latest and greatest.  For a lot of folks enjoying a long weekend there may just be some extra sewing time.  Here are a few of our favorite presidential fabrics....

And just in case you have an artist in the family, or someone you want to keep occupied at the table...or you need a quick hostess gift (a table runner rolled up with a ribbon and a box of chocolates...I mean chalk!).  I backed the chalk cloth with the new wool felt we are stocking, simply topstitched it down and voila!  For the table runners, I pinked the edges of the felt for a bit of fun too.  The wool felt keeps the placemat from sliding around nicely as well.  Super quick and fun!
Leave me a message!
And for those of you that haven't seen our latest quilt hanging behind the counter area in person, here is a sneak peek.  This one is a hand-pieced and hand quilted bow-tie quilt...it has a vintage feel, but was made not that long ago for a special baby, who is now approaching eye level.  We added the paper and glitter garland for a bit of glamour ~

Toile Challenge

Well...surely it's time to forgive and forget all  those New Year's resolutions and start a new project?  And, since it is time for a new challenge...we were thinking a fabric choice would be our inspiration for this one.....and we do love toile.

Featured Toiles
We thought it was time for you to choose the project design, and we'll focus on the fabric for this challenge.... Purchase a toile fabric kit (2 fat quarters) and create a quilted item.  No item is too small…and although we’d prefer to hang small quilts rather than bed size quilts, we don't want to hold you back if you're inspired.  And just to clarify - you can always purchase more toile or supporting fabric to use in your project, we just have the minimum quantity set as a fat quarter.

  • Must use a recognizable amount of toile and supporting fabric on the front of the item.
  • Entries must be turned into Two Thimbles by Sunday April 27th 2014.
  • Visitors will vote for the winners in the month of May 2014.

In the works...inspiration

That is pretty much the limit on rules - you can add as many additional fabrics to your project as you choose - use lots of toile or just enough....and create your project from whatever pattern or creative ideas that inspire you!   We have a variety of toile prints, motifs and colors to choose from so get those ideas brewing!  Stop in and pick up a fabric kit and challenge details soon!

Red and White and Valentine's!

We like Valentines...mostly of the chocolate variety, but this felt garland was pretty fun to make. Our photography skills have not improved much, but you get the idea.  We used our new wool felt fabrics to create the garland and our pincushion this month.  For the garland you'll find a great tutorial here and you can get this project done in a flash!

pincushion
Our little wool felt pincushion features lots of french knots - which could easily be switched out for beads...we have a little felt roll of these featured colors, and the pattern from American Homestead.  Yes, sadly - the empty polka dot heart box is just for background, no chocolates left....

Little Red Riding Hood
Do any of you have this fabric in your stash?  They have reprinted this fun storybook print, and now you can get more...so you can actually use what you've been saving?  Sounds about right to me!

We are getting ready for our next challenge project - so watch for more news on that soon....we have a few fabulous Lincoln's Sampler quilts on display from our last challenge.  And a big shout out to our dedicated participants for completing that project.  We'll have photos soon!

Wrap up in a quilt, stay warm and stitch something fun!
