5 Little Quilts, 10 Big Years

It takes a village may just be our theme song of late!  Although some of this effort was underway months ago, all the moving parts just didn't come together until now - so here it is with an extra drumroll for teamwork!

Alot of people contributed in various ways to our Little Quilt effort this year - we have a multi-talented college student employee with the skills to create our special pattern cover, and we had some expert sewing and consulting help from our shop team including those who come out of retirement, leave children unattended, and volunteer their time to help out in ways they don't even realize to help get the job done!  Thanks to ALL of our customers, employees (former employees too!), friends and family who have contributed to making our 10 Big Years all that they have been!

We've got five special little quilts - all sourced from vintage quilt images on Pinterest - you can check out our Pinterest board for the original inspiration projects here: https://www.pinterest.com/twothimbles/5-little-quilts-10-big-years/

It was fun to look for similar current fabrics to feature in these projects and also create our own spin where we wanted to.  We have some of the feature fabrics bundled as fat quarters and also a great instruction booklet that includes all 5 quilts.  These will be posted on the website soon.

Hope you have a chance to stop in and see the quilts, we had a great show and share with customer quilts added to our classroom wall for admiration earlier this week and we do appreciate seeing all the creativity!  Thank-you for a great 10 years!

Our Favorites!

Things are starting to shift places at the shop...and that can only mean ONE thing.  Halloween comes before Christmas!  We have some great fabrics to mix and match - along with several oldies but goodies - we've added a few pieces from the Hocus Pocus line as well as these fun and funky ones from Cheeky Wee Pumpkins.  We also have a couple of Halloween panels and a quilt recipe to go with them, so you can create your own project combining fabrics you choose.  Here are some of our current favorites....

We've got fabric bundles and combinations that could help make these quilts happen in no time at all!

Intrigue Pattern

As I mentioned in a previous post - we love show and tell!  Here is a creative quilt Carol stitched up based around our Steampunk fabric panel - the panel is one of the 'challenging' ones, in that the blocks are different sizes, and in this case some of the motifs are round too!  This propeller block combined with the featured fussy cut blocks really worked out fabulously!  Great one-of-a-kind quilt Carol, thanks for sharing!

Happy Stitching!

Learning and Playing!

Look at these results from our first Prima Diva - Revised wallet class!  The variety of options is pretty much limitless.  You can combine fabrics, add embellishments and change up the wallet features to create exactly what you want!

The photos below showcase the samples Suz created for our class - we've set up another date for mid-September so if you missed out on this round, check your calendar for September 16th!

And we've added another date for the Perfect Applique!  This method of hand-applique combines fusible and glue techniques for a perfect edge, that allows you to see all the fabrics in place before you finalize.  No surprises - and the option to perfectly place an specific fabric motifs.  You can try your hand at this method - choose a fish or a fowl and get started.  New class date September 9th!

Hope you can join us for some fun learning!

Time for a new project?

We have such a great variety of new fabrics filling the shelves, I'm having trouble narrowing down my new project ideas!  Of course, it would help if the outstanding number of WIP's were closer to the finish line, but then again, where is the fun in that?

"Quilters who start projects and never finish them are cooler than quilters who never start projects in the first place"...my new favorite quote seen on Instagram recently.  Pretty much covers it, don't you think!

We have added some new prints to our growing collection of Cotton & Steel fabrics - are you a fan of these contemporary colors and graphic motifs?

We've still got a great mix of heavy weight canvas and linen blends that work into some pretty cute projects - this latest owl print on royal blue replaces the parakeets we had in stock previously.  We also have a nice mid-weight denim in stock (10 0z) which would be a great addition to a picnic blanket or car quilt - backing perhaps?  The latest grunge fabric from Moda, which includes tonal polka dots on the fabulous range of grunge colored backgrounds is starting to arrive as well.

And we don't like to leave any of the animals out of the mix - our latest group from Dear Stella for Timeless Treasures includes a sloth - not sure if that will surpass the llama trend in popularity or not!

Hope you have some fun summer projects in the works - and we always appreciate show and tell so stop by and share with us what you're working on.  Happy Stitching!

REMINDER:  It's been almost a year since we started closing on Mondays...and although it may be inconvenient to keep track of our new schedule, we really appreciate the time it has given us to catch up on projects and paperwork.  We are OPEN on Sundays Noon - 4pm!

New Treasures!

Summer has arrived, and we have some HOT new fabrics!  These are the latest additions to the growing collection of Australian prints.  We've seen a few projects completed by customers using these distinctive prints and they are all spectacular.  We've incorporated a few of the softer color options into our Delilah WIP and we've seen some used in English paper piecing projects too.

We've added a few bold and bright batik prints onto the shelves as well.

And not to be outdone on the color spectrum - these latest digital prints are so photo realistic, you have to touch the fabric to be sure that isn't a fresh bouquet and water drops.

Some additions to the 1800's reproductions as well - these are all from Pam Buda for Marcus Fabrics - and the colors are just a bit off here so although it is a saturated purple with some strong color, it's not the neon shown!  We still aren't photographers....but we're working on it!

July is zooming by and we have not got a plan together yet for our Holiday fabrics - they are starting to arrive and should be out on the shelves somewhere in the next couple of weeks.  Do you have plans to make some holiday quilts?  For yourself or as gifts?  We need some inspiration so tell us about what you have planned!

Delilah update TOM progress

We are preparing month 5 for our Delilah TOM participants and the project is starting to come together as we combine more blocks.  We've included a few extra photos of participant's blocks - and a collage of our collection of blocks to date.

We are sold out in the subscription to our templates, however, if you're liking our fabric choices, we do have some color stacks available - you can purchase a fat quarter collection of the background light fabrics - or we have color stacks available.  The color stacks, feature 24 different 9" x 10 " pieces (approximately 2 yards) for $21.95.  These are an eclectic blend of fabrics off our shelves and combine several different fabric collections and styles.

These color stack bundles would be a great way to supplement a scrappy project, or if you're patient - Jen Kingwell will be offering the Delilah project as a pattern sometime later this year or early next.
