New Fabrics and Shop Hours

Well - it's almost mid-November already and I can't say I've really spent much time thinking ahead to the holidays and here we are...time to get moving!

Our path to reopening will continue to evolve and with our website upgrade, we hope you'll consider that method of shopping for increased access to our fabrics and a great option for staying safe as we continue to be limited by COVID restrictions.   We now offer a choice of curbside pickup for online purchases and we can accommodate a larger range of hours for curbside delivery. We will continue to update our shop hours here and on our website so please check back for current information!

We are open for walk-in shopping

 Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday

11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Thursday and Friday

11:00 am- 4:00 pm

We are open by appointment for individual shopping

Here are some of the latest additions to our shelves (and website!).

New Goods and Shop Hours

We've added this group of great reproduction prints recently - Walnut Creek by Julie Hendricksen for Windham Fabrics, and they are on the website.  We also have the stack of 5 inch squares if you want to have a little bit of the entire collection - these are great for English Paper Piecing and applique shapes!

We finished up a new sample quilt - featuring a pack of precut Tonga batik strips that get you off to a quick start for a fast finish with limited cutting!  We've got this combination as a kit, or packs of precut strips if you have a different favorite strip friendly project in mind.  We added a border to this project to make it a bit larger and backed it with flannel for a perfect fall couch quilt.

And of course - some perfect project inspiration and fresh ideas are always an option with Quiltmania books and then some new choices from Jen Kingwell too.  These books offer a wide range of style and technique options ranging from applique and english paper piecing techniques to the hand-piecing work that Jen favors.

Store Hours and New Fabric

We caught the afternoon sunlight on this tree across the street from the shop - if you pop by soon, you might find the leaves still on it and the pavement dry!  But then again, more rain means more time for stitching right?!

The latest issue of Quiltfolk is on the shelf - the subject is Family rather than a geographical focus for this issue.  It makes for a great rainy day read!  We've also got some other new Quiltmania books and quilt project books ready to inspire you for some winter sewing!

Some of or most recent additions to the fabric shelves cover all the options - bright and bold as well as lighter florals - some holiday options too.  One of our upgrades to the website - is a search feature so you can find these goodies by the Collection name or 'Holiday' for your Halloween and Christmas favorites!

New Additions and Hours this Week

We're still unwrapping holiday fabric bolts and anticipating some quality evening stitching with the latest bout of stormy weather and earlier dark hours arriving this past week - all the projects seem possible!

Scandi Christmas 2020

Good Tidings by Jo Morton

We've added these new woven plaids and stripes in bold colors and neutrals - they're even on our new expanded website!!  This new collection is from Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics - perfect for home dec and mixing into quilt projects too!   The latest arrivals from Quiltmania were unboxed yesterday, and looks like I'll be reordering soon...is it too early to put something under the Christmas tree for yourself?

We are open by appointment Tuesday and Wednesday for individual shopping

(it's okay to bring a friend!)

Please use this link to reserve a time for individual in-store shopping that suits your schedule.   (there is no need to register or log in, just click on 'next' at the bottom right)

As our local COVID numbers continue to restrict business activity and school operations we have limited hours.  We feel it is important to be part of the solution and want to do our best to help mitigate the ongoing spread of COVID-19.   We are transitioning to new school schedules and will reset our shop hours once we have an idea about our homeschool obligations.

We are open for walk-in shopping on Thursday and Friday from 1:00 - 4:00pm

and

 Saturday 11:00 - 2:00pm.

There are a few appointments available on these days as well for individual shopping, if openings are available they will be reflected on the calendar in the link.  Please use the website booking tool to reserve a spot.

We have implemented some changes to our shop layout and business practices to help maintain social distancing, upgraded sanitizing efforts and require that all customers wear facial coverings for the duration of their visit.  In-store retail visits are encouraged to adhere to the recommended 30 minute limit per Washington State safe-start guidelines.  If you would like assistance with your project or selecting fabrics please consider making an appointment to ensure staff availability.

Happy Stitching!

Open Hours and New Fabric

Open for drop-in shopping!
Thursday and Friday
1:00pm - 4:00pm

We are open by appointment Tuesday through Saturday for individual shopping (it's okay to bring a friend!) from 10:00am - 4:00pm (except as noted above Thursday/Friday).

Please use this link to reserve a time for individual in-store shopping that suits your schedule.

As our local COVID numbers continue to limit our ability to move to the next phase of opening we will maintain this blend of available hours.  We are excited for re-opening but want to do so in a smart way and do our part to help mitigate the ongoing spread of COVID-19.  Now that we will be juggling home school sessions again this fall we'll see what a new work schedule will look like.

We have implemented a few changes to our shop layout and business practices to help maintain social distancing, upgraded sanitizing efforts and require that all customers wear facial coverings for the duration of their visit.  Shopping visits are limited to 30 minutes per state requirements and since we have limited staffing available, please reserve an appointment if you would like assistance with your project or shopping choices.  We appreciate everyone doing their part to take care of our community.

We are starting a few new projects in between mask making....sound familiar?  And we've seen a few customer finishes of late as well!  We've had requests for backings and batting and bindings as everyone wraps up a COVID project or two...and requests for something new and fresh to supplement and re-inspire...but I have yet to hear "I've run out of fabric"!

We have some new batiks in stock - great for quilts, and for masks!

And some beginnings of red and green are filling the shelves in the reproduction room.  These subdued prints are darker shades and great for stash building or for holiday projects!

Happy Stitching!

We've got some new fabric additions from a variety of designers and we're getting ready to add some holiday fabrics (yep - that means Halloween AND Christmas) to the shelves...hard to think that fall is coming when we're having our first days of real summer weather this week!

Sometimes it's easier to get inspired from a group of precuts - or they look great sitting on your fabric shelf until you find the perfect project!  We've combined a few fat quarters and half-yard cuts to give you a head start.  These bundles and coordinated yardage are now listed on our website.  These 2 groups of William Morris designs are easy to live with and work with many design styles - and of course, a mixture of red and blue is great all summer long not just in July!

We waited a while for this gorgeous group of reproduction prints.  The panel blocks will be be amazing for medallion quilt projects, focal blocks or cut apart for broderie perse applique....you name it!  We have charm packs too for a taste of the full collection, and we chose our favorites shown below.  These are designed by Christopher Wilson Tate for Moda fabrics, and the quilts he showcases in his collection of antique quilts are extensive!  Check out the Antique Quilt Company on Instagram for some fabulous quilt inspiration.  @antiquequiltcompany

We have started the fabulous Wheelhouse Medallion project here at the shop and these gorgeous blooms are part of the group designed by Anna Maria Horner for Freespirit Fabrics.  These prints make great wearables, quilts and cut apart and reconfigured for amazing collage pieces to embellish and enjoy!  No weeding required for these colorful blooms.

It's berry season for sure here in Whatcom County, but on the eastside of the state, it's all about the cherries!  This table runner was requested for a new home and was a fun distraction from mask making!

These cheerful prints from the Cherry Lemonade collection make great kitchen accessories, and I've had a few customers choose the florals for face masks too....and then there is this fresh quilt kit all ready to go if you want a larger project!

We just received this indigo kantha cloth - pre-stitched layers for a great bag, pillow or summer jacket or infinity scarf perhaps?!

A few more additions to our Charley Harper collection of fabrics - these are poplin and the weave and density of these fabrics make them a really nice weight for summer loungewear, and pillowcases...you may see a few of these prints featured in masks around town too - a fun choice when you want to make a statement with our latest fashion accessory!

A recent group added to 1800's collection is the gorgeous floral grouping Wildflower Woods designed for the period c. 1870-85, by Evonne Cook for P&B Studios.  These designs were inspired by the works of Gene Stratton Porter, an environmentalist, author, naturalist and photographer ahead of her time.  You can read about Gene and the Indiana State Museum site named in her honor here:   https://www.indianamuseum.org/gsp
