Quilt market - Portland

Here are some additional photos of some of the things we were inspired by at quilt market in Portland...
I can't believe how quickly our summer is flying by.  Thanks to everyone who came and sewed at our first "Sew-in Retreat"...I think everyone got a little something accomplished along with enjoying the day!

New Class!

T-Shirt Quilts ReImagined

Think you have seen everything when it comes to T-shirt quilts? Think again…there can be much, much more creativity to it than simple blocks and sashing. Local quilter Paula Graham lets the shirts direct her design when she makes T-shirt quilts, and she’ll be here at Two Thimbles sharing tips and techniques during a two-part, lecture style class.

  • The first session will outline the planning process, taking such factors into consideration as size and use of your finished project, as well as a discussion on deciding which T-shirts to use and how to prepare them. There will also be time spent on choosing complementary materials.

  • The second session will focus on learning to build your quilt from basic blocks and inset blocks, including a photo discussion of the process, samples in progress and a conversation about goal-setting.

  • After that, it’s up to you to apply what you learn to finish your quilt. Paula will be available for individual consultations (fee separate from cost of class) as you proceed with your project!

Class dates: Part 1 will be held on Thursday, August 15th, and Part 2 will be held on Thursday, August 22nd. Both sessions will run from 1-3 pm. Cost: $50.

Below are some photos of sample quilts...there are tons of possibilities!

Oops! Error in Step Four

A customer pointed out an error in yesterday's directions for the Thimble SIX Medallion Quilt Step Four. When you cut your (8) rectangles for the alternating block, cut them 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches (NOT 2.5 inches x 3.6 inches). Also, at the end of step four your top should measure 16.5 inches square, not 17 inches. These changes have been updated in yesterday's post. Our proofreader is back in town so hopefully we'll catch these things earlier next time-we apologize for any inconvenience!

Thimble SIX Medallion Quilt Step FOUR

Is it too hot to sew?  How are the medallions growing?!  I hope you're ready for another round - here are the fabric choices we used for step 4.  This frame consists of corner posts in the same fabric we used previously and hourglass blocks with alternating rectangle blocks to form this frame.

Cherries for July

Hope you had a festive 4th...it is berry season here in Whatcom county, but we featured mini-cherries in our pincushion bowl.  The little metal label on the bowl reads...."PINS", not PITS!  We found a great tutorial online for this project and have some kits all prepared if you want to make your own and save yourself the step of collecting the materials.

We have some gorgeous black and pink and grey peony fabric but now that peony blooms are fading, we've moved onto something brighter.  This project features a dahlia print center panel and jewel bright complements - the pattern is versatile so if you've got a panel that you've been waiting to match up with a pattern...this could be the one!
Here's another quick project that starts with a liberty ridge flag panel.  We increased the size on this quilt and added a border - it now fits the donation size requirements for Quilts of Valor!

The Mill Book series by Moda features fabric circa 1835 - we have just a few pieces that we thought were especially unique from this first collection.  Stop by soon and check them out!
