Wooly Block Adventure 2016

We are participating!!  This event is a short one - you only have until December 15th to pick up your free block pattern and stitch up something fabulous for some fun prizes!  The theme is Winter Wonderland - and there is a free 9th block design offered through the Wooly Block Adventure so get out and collect your block patterns!

We framed our block with a bright red print so it looks more finished for display.  Some fancy threads, a few stitches and a bit of bling for the finishing touch.  It's always fun to see the before and after once the embellishing is complete and a bit more dimension gets created.  Of course you could go all out and embellish for days with these blocks - that's half the fun right?!  Thank you Suz for designing our block!

If you want more information about this event - check out the details here.
I'm off to Houston in the morning - hard to believe this will be my tenth trip to Fall Quilt Market.  Always fun to see what is new and different what is the same, and I'm thinking 85 degrees could be alright too!

Happy Stitching!

What's new

We have alot of great fabrics filling the shelves to overflowing, and have added some basic new colors of grunge, woven checks and crossweaves as well.  In between unpacking boxes we have been finishing up a few projects.  This rainy weather has been perfect motivation to get a few projects underway.

Meadow Storm
It is the time of year we love - pumpkin scones and pumpkin spice lattes any chance we get.  This new throw size quilt top features a fabulous print from Alexander Henry and the Haunted House collection.

Pressed Leaves

We are happy to showcase one of our favorite fall projects created by local author and pattern designer Tonya Alexander - she whipped up a fresh sample of her Pressed Leaves table runner and dropped off a few patterns for us so we have a splash of bright color on display too.  If you haven't decided on your table decor for the upcoming holidays this could be stitched up in no time!
Here is a quick outfit for a little one - this Knick Knack Knickers and Piece of Cake dress are both free online patterns designed by Anna Maria Horner, one of our favorite designers.  There are alot of great versions shown on Anna Maria's blog so the fabric possibilities are endless!

Magpie Manor with Bobi Sue Herring

November 12th and 13th - Magpie Manor

This project is a pattern that I have admired for some time and can't wait to finally make mine up!
The pattern and a set of hand-painted eyes are included in the class fee.  The project size is designed at 16x26 but I'm sure there is some flexibility if you want to change it up. I have a copy of the pattern available to look at if you'd like to see some details, please just let me know on your next shop visit.

Here is a brief description of the project:
Magpie Manor was designed to showcase beautiful prints and artfully frame them, like cameos, ordained in jewelry.  This pattern is for the collector with a stash, to use your treasures.  Play with the sizing and pattern of your prints to achieve dramatic effects.

An opportunity to play with fabrics, incorporate a variety of techniques such as free motion quilting and embellishing.  Dabble in raw-edge hand appliqué, couching, embroidery and a unique and versatile nubby twist edge finish.

Bobi Sue is the featured artist at Quiltopia held in Oregon this month AND she will be releasing a new pattern Tales of a Tattered Fox.  I've attached a couple of photos for your reference.  She has previously taught at Sisters and Greenbaums in Oregon.

The class size will be limited, and we have a few spaces left, since space is limited it will not be posted on our website at this time.  Please stop by the store or give us a call if you'd like to commit.

What we're working on!

We have been working on finishing...all in the hopes of starting something new right?  These improv bowtie blocks of mine sat around for some time, and finally got to a finish recently.  I think this one is "Ode to a Banker", the modern country fabric mixed with a few solids for the bow ties, and a grey flannel like peppered cotton for the background.  The kicker is the blue and white stripe 'shirting' that I used for the back.  Good to be done!  The inspiration for this project came a quilt by Mary Dugan - I've linked to her blog below.  You might just get inspired from one of her projects too!

We are gearing up for some english paper piecing fun with Jane - if you've been thinking about trying this versatile and portable hand-piecing style Jane is here to get you started!  We have a basic class coming up on the 21st and if you really get addicted, we've got an ongoing support group you can join. Both classes are listed on our website.

And if you missed the Gingerbread house classes with Suz, we now have a pattern available and there's plenty of time to whip up an entire village before the holidays!  These gingerbread houses of wool felt will last for years, no calories and they are alot of fun to personalize.

We hope you have a chance to get out and enjoy the amazing fall colors and find some time for stitching too!

Just a reminder - we're OPEN on Sunday's and CLOSED on Monday's now.  We so appreciate your support and business and hope you can adjust to this new schedule!

New fabric for October

We have added a bunch of different prints and styles to our shelves - of course an emphasis on brights as we turn to fall colors, darker mornings and bit of drizzle now and then.  Perfect sewing weather?!

Mermaid Magic Michael Miller Fabrics

Kaffe and Phillip for Rowan
These funky prints are linen & cotton blends, and I'm pretty sure some of it will be coming home with me...just not sure if it will be a bag or just what.  Any specific projects come to mind for you?

Hey Dot for Moda
Tula Pink for Free Spirit
Our latest color club addition is this bundle of 'clementine' - it joins a bunch of other contemporary color bundles ranging from mustard to orchid.  These bundles are great additions to help fill out your collection and supplement in color areas that you may not automatically go to.

Double Gauze Batik
One of our latest finishes, a fun small project - this one is from a Villa Rosa pattern card "Cherish" and is a pretty versatile pattern we think.  This version features fabric from Windham Fabrics Party Animals collection.    We have fabric kits available and you could get this stitched up in a hurry if you need a quick gift for a little someone.
