What's old is new?

Time on your hands to learn a new skill - mending and Sashiko stitching are popular ways to combine your artistic visions while creating and refurbishing!  Wikipedia decribes Sashiko stitching as functional embroidery that started out of a practical need in Japan, as far back as 1615.

We've got some basic supplies to get you started in learning - the recent pocket size publication "Sashiko" published by C&T is even authored by Washington artist Sylvia Pippen!

Go beyond the basics and mend your jeans with colorful threads and patchwork...mix and match for some added fun!

Or you can try your hand at more decorative fabric collage and create something with fabric and stitching that is modeled in the Kantha or Boro style of work.  The prestitched kantha cloth shown below is available as yardage and makes a great infinity scarf or lightweight jacket - there is cloth on both sides, so it has a double layer of fabric but is still soft and drapes well.

Play with fabric and cut out your favorite motif's for a colorful bouquet to add some springtime decor to your couch or framed on the wall for a bright spot of spring blooms!
