Remember when last summer?

Open for drop-in shopping!
Thursday and Friday
1:00pm - 4:00pm

We are open by appointment Tuesday through Saturday for individual shopping (it's okay to bring a friend!) from 10:00am - 4:00pm (except as noted above Thursday/Friday).

Please use this link to reserve a time for individual in-store shopping that suits your schedule.

(there is no need to log in OR register, just click on the 'next' button)

As our local COVID numbers continue to limit our ability to move to the next phase of opening, we will continue with this blend of available hours.  We are excited for re-opening but want to do so in a smart way and do our part to help mitigate the ongoing spread of COVID-19.  We're doing our best to juggle social distancing requirements for staff and customers so that we can continue to stay open and healthy.  We have implemented a few changes to our shop layout and business practices to help maintain social distancing, upgraded sanitizing efforts and require that all customers wear facial coverings for the duration of their visit.  We appreciate everyone doing their part to take care of our community.

And now for a flash back!....last summer about this time, we were finalizing the installation of air conditioning (just one more reason to visit the shop now!) and recovering from a much anticipated whirlwind few days of hosting Margaret Mew and Judy Newman from Australia.  Sounds so much more complex now than it was at the time.  We were anticipating a visit from Lorena Uriarte (@lorena_in_syd) and Lisa Mattock (@foragebylisamattock) this fall, both from Australia and sadly those visits are off the 2020 calendar.

Back to last summer - we packed the classroom, we toured Whatcom County, we enjoyed good weather and stitched as much as we could.  Margaret and Judy are both talented and generous and provided a lovely impromptu trunk show full of inspiration within minutes of their arrival at the shop.

What a treat!  We enjoyed our time together and now with our current isewlation status look back with even greater appreciation at the opportunity to connect with fellow quilters and meet these lovely ladies!  Enjoy some inspiration and good memories with these photos and perhaps a new project will catch your eye!

We have a few starter kits of fabric packs hand-picked by Margaret and Judy for the Cleland Coverlet and County Claire quilts - we also have their books published by Quiltmania and the Wildflower Cushion pattern and County Claire Quilt in stock.  Thanks Margaret and Judy for such a great visit and wrap up to your US tour of 2019!  Give the shop a call or schedule an appointment to stop by and check out a project inspired by Australians!

Happy Stitching ~

Mew / Newman Workshop Recap!

Highlights from our visit with Margaret Mew and Judy Newman

The much anticipated workshops with the Australian contingent held in June were great fun and it's been exciting to see and hear about continued progress on some of the projects started in class.  We had a wonderful time with this team and they had stacks of quilts to share with us!  Thanks so much to our customers who attended this event...we appreciate your support and recognition of these ladies talent and skills.  We were even joined by a dedicated long distance student who arrived from Australian too!

We not only had 3 days of workshops with this team - but we also put the ladies to work the moment they arrived in Bellingham with an impromptu trunk show for some of our local stitchers that happened to be spending some quality time at their LQS!  Judy and Margaret also had time to peruse our shelves and came up with some fun fabric selections for starter kits for a few of their quilt projects.  It is almost like they'll be watching over your shoulder as you work on one of these quilts!

We have a few patterns and starter kits available for the Cleland Coverlet and the Indiana Medallion - including hand-picked fabrics by Margaret!  Give the shop a call or send us an email if you're interested.  We have the EPP coffin shapes in stock as well to finish up the Cleland.

Judy isn't a fan of dark colors, so you'll see a distinct shift in color palette with her fabric picks for Emma Mary and County Claire (shown below).  We have the fabric starter packs, acrylic templates for County Claire, and a couple of patterns with the EPP shapes for Emma Mary - give us a call or email and we'll get you set up!

Judy at work!
We did our best to show these ladies a good time while here in Bellingham, a bit of touring and some outside summer dining, sweetened the deal with our favorite treats and a fabric fix....we may see these ladies back at a future date if their travel schedules permit!  Until next time...
