Zieber Quilts 

  Spend the day and step into the secret world of children and their quilts!  Through antique and vintage quilts, trade advertising and images you will learn the important role children held in the American household and the significance their toy treasures still hold today.  The afternoon portion of the day will be spent creating a truly historic looking treasure - a unique American Doll Quilt!  A doll quilt pattern designed by Zieber will be provided.

Antebellum in America Lecture and Trunk Show

A fabulous opportunity to spend the day with Leah and an amazing collection of antique textiles...up close and in detail.  The focus for this event "Those Fabulous Fifties:  Quilts in Antebellum America".  Together we will explore the textiles, history and relevance of quilts during the 19th century years leading up to the Civil War.  This presentation will include up close quilt and textile viewing and discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring along any quilts, tops, blocks or other historical information/ephemera that they feel is relevant to the topic of "Pre-Civil War America."

Quilt History with Leah Zieber

Happy day, quilters! If you hadn't heard yet, we have a special guest coming in June!

Leah will join us for 2 days of history lessons combining antique quilts, fabric history and a bit of sewing, we'll have specific class descriptions and registration details coming later this month! 

Leah is a Southern Californian quilt historian and quilt maker specializing in Antique Reproduction Quilts from the nineteenth century. To learn more about her visit her website here.

She has just released her new book, Treasure Hunt, co-authored with Linda Collins and we have just received our initial shipment!  This book includes gorgeous pictures, great tips and lots of inspiration if you need a new project idea.  I'm having a bit of a struggle picking a favorite to start on, and that cover quilt is looking pretty tempting for a fresh spring look to be stitching on right now!

Highlights from our visit with Margaret Mew and Judy Newman

The much anticipated workshops with the Australian contingent held in June were great fun and it's been exciting to see and hear about continued progress on some of the projects started in class.  We had a wonderful time with this team and they had stacks of quilts to share with us!  Thanks so much to our customers who attended this event...we appreciate your support and recognition of these ladies talent and skills.  We were even joined by a dedicated long distance student who arrived from Australian too!

We not only had 3 days of workshops with this team - but we also put the ladies to work the moment they arrived in Bellingham with an impromptu trunk show for some of our local stitchers that happened to be spending some quality time at their LQS!  Judy and Margaret also had time to peruse our shelves and came up with some fun fabric selections for starter kits for a few of their quilt projects.  It is almost like they'll be watching over your shoulder as you work on one of these quilts!

We have a few patterns and starter kits available for the Cleland Coverlet and the Indiana Medallion - including hand-picked fabrics by Margaret!  Give the shop a call or send us an email if you're interested.  We have the EPP coffin shapes in stock as well to finish up the Cleland.

Judy isn't a fan of dark colors, so you'll see a distinct shift in color palette with her fabric picks for Emma Mary and County Claire (shown below).  We have the fabric starter packs, acrylic templates for County Claire, and a couple of patterns with the EPP shapes for Emma Mary - give us a call or email and we'll get you set up!

We did our best to show these ladies a good time while here in Bellingham, a bit of touring and some outside summer dining, sweetened the deal with our favorite treats and a fabric fix....we may see these ladies back at a future date if their travel schedules permit!  Until next time...

Slow Stitching with Lisa Mattock

Another acclaimed Australian creator, Lisa Mattock, will be joining us for a workshop on her specialty, Slow Stitching. Lisa will teach the foundations of several stitches and explore the techniques involved in creating beautiful pieces from treasured finds. This class will put an emphasis on repurposing old fabrics in a contemporary, unique way.

If you find you often feel stressed in the crafting process, this class is for you. Lisa embraces the idea of slowing down, recognizing the practical beauty of reclaiming, reusing and repurposing. Her class will draw inspiration from the arts of Sashiko, Boro, and Kantha, which involve decorative stitching, mending, and embroidery.

Students will walk away with a unique panel and a game plan to complete it - as a quilt block, pillow cushion, wall hanging, or incorporated into a tote or other project!  Lots of flexibility to create something artistic and special.

Magnificent Medallions with Margaret Mew 

 June 13th and 14th 

Price:  $245.00 for two day workshop

Medallion quilts are a beautiful, versatile style of quilting that are well-suited for a "make as you go" method. Talented Australian quilter, teacher, and author, Margaret Mew, will guide students through the art of medallion quilting in a two day workshop.

Along with making your medallion, Margaret will go over borders, color and print work, finding inspiration, and doing the math to create an elaborate, well-thought out design. Techniques will include hand and machine piecing, English paper piecing, and hand applique. Don't miss this great opportunity to learn alongside this extraordinary creative!

Choose from two beautiful quilt designs, and put together a unique creation with Judy Newman, accomplished quilter, teacher, and author. Judy's class will focus on a variety of hand piecing techniques, so no sewing machine is required.
