Mew / Newman Workshop Recap!
Highlights from our visit with Margaret Mew and Judy Newman
The much anticipated workshops with the Australian contingent held in June were great fun and it's been exciting to see and hear about continued progress on some of the projects started in class. We had a wonderful time with this team and they had stacks of quilts to share with us! Thanks so much to our customers who attended this event...we appreciate your support and recognition of these ladies talent and skills. We were even joined by a dedicated long distance student who arrived from Australian too!
Rosa B by Margaret Mew |
We not only had 3 days of workshops with this team - but we also put the ladies to work the moment they arrived in Bellingham with an impromptu trunk show for some of our local stitchers that happened to be spending some quality time at their LQS! Judy and Margaret also had time to peruse our shelves and came up with some fun fabric selections for starter kits for a few of their quilt projects. It is almost like they'll be watching over your shoulder as you work on one of these quilts!
We have a few patterns and starter kits available for the Cleland Coverlet and the Indiana Medallion - including hand-picked fabrics by Margaret! Give the shop a call or send us an email if you're interested. We have the EPP coffin shapes in stock as well to finish up the Cleland.

We did our best to show these ladies a good time while here in Bellingham, a bit of touring and some outside summer dining, sweetened the deal with our favorite treats and a fabric fix....we may see these ladies back at a future date if their travel schedules permit! Until next time...

Arlo Quilt Club
Are you a fan of Carolyn Friedlander's projects and overall style? We are enamored with her latest fabric collection 'Instead' showcased perfectly in the Arlo Quilt! Fabric bundles will be arriving any day now and we are ready to get this project started. We'll be hosting a four-session sew-along to create the Arlo quilt, Carolyn's modern take on a classic hexagon.

This is not a how-to class, rather we're offering a guided sew-along for stitching and conversation. Although general sewing skills and ability will be required, the Two Thimbles team will be stitching along with you, and provide support and consultation. Come together with like-minded stitchers for a fun opportunity to create a beautiful modern quilt in a group setting and channel some Friedlander style. This is a customizable project, so quilters can choose from several different project sizes ranging from a mini quilt to a traditional throw size. This project was designed to allow for various construction methods too - you can machine piece, hand piece or English Paper Piece this project - so pick your favorite style of working.
Club members will receive half-off the participation fee with the purchase of Carolyn's curated fat quarter bundles from Two Thimbles.

The $50 participation fee includes four sessions and the pattern for the Arlo quilt. Join us every third Thursday beginning in August (8/15/19) from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m for this fun activity! Give us a call or stop by the shop soon to register.

What's new?
What's new at Two Thimbles?
Although it may not feel like it here in Bellingham, summer is in full swing! We've been working on some fun projects and bringing in products designed to make the summer sewing process as smooth as can be, to keep you cool under the sun (or clouds!).
We have several new publications that would be a great addition to your beach bag. We recently received "Hidden Treasures: Quilts from 1600 to 1860" by Lori Lee and Kay Triplett. It's a lovely book full of rarely seen creations from the pre-Civil War era.
The newest Quiltmania addition is also now available. This book is entitled "Labors of Love" and highlights quilts created by the Secret Sewing Sisters. And if you're looking for something a little more unique, "Blended Embroidery" by Brian Haggard might be the right choice for you. It's a book that covers repurposing old textiles to create new treasures.
The Wildflower Cushion pattern was created by one of our recent teachers, Margaret Mew. Margaret is an Australian quilter who came to visit our store last month.
Our newest 3-Yard quilt design! Perfect for the kiddos in your life.
Some of our favorite notions that have recently found a place in our shop. We especially like the needle storage tubes which use a magnet to fan out sewing needles for super convenient selection. Hope you have a great time checking out the local quilt shops where-ever your summer travels take you. Come back and tell us about any new treasures you discover that have you excited to sew!

Summer roadtrip essentials
Projects to take on your next road trip! This boxy pouch is the perfect travel bag for any summer road trip. Use this compact little bag as a place to store makeup, toiletries, or any other gear that you need on hand. Choose a print that pops and get stitching! Free pattern available here. The Riley Blake "Washington" fabric is the perfect remembrance for your summer visit or a great going away gift for someone leaving the state too! |
Stitch your way across the USA! Another great idea from Laundry Basket Quilts: Use this linen panel as the foundation for your beautiful embroidery stitches, maybe applique a piece of fabric from favorite quilt shops visited during your travels or a piece of foam board as backing would allow for pins to mark where you've been and where you're headed....the possibilities are endless! |
Keep your bags distinguishable with this super cute luggage tag. We've got basic instructions to complete this tag with your next purchase of cork or kraft tex - perfect combination to go with any fabric choice! Make it for your own bag or gift one to a friend for the perfect travel gift.
