Three Yard Quilts

Some of our favorite quilts are simple, 3-yard quilt projects. A great beginning quilt for new quilters, or a refreshing project after a long and detailed quilt. This project can be whatever you want it to be! We have curated combinations ready to go, or come in and pick three of your favorite fabrics. Its versatility allows for mixing and matching - a variety of pattern designs and only 3 fabrics, mean you won't get overwhelmed making decisions.

Along with our curated bundles, we have several patterns that work specifically with 3 yard quilts.  These projects are great for stash busting too if you have some feature fabric cuts - all you need is a couple of supporting fabrics.  Below are two pattern options that we have in stock!

If you need a quick gift, or want to want to add a splash of something new to your holiday decor - these are great options and are well suited in size to quilting at home on a domestic machine.  You can get these accomplished and start enjoying them right away!

Reuse and reduce!

After all our sewing and stitching projects, once our thread has run out....what to do with empty cones and spools? All that waste can beg the question, how can we find ways to be more eco-friendly?

Well, Superior Threads went ahead and answered our question! In a recent blog post, they share different ways to reuse spools and cones.

Some of our favorites are:
  • Reusing empty thread cones by wrapping your binding around a cone!
  • Repurposing them to be Christmas decorations!
For more tips, visit their website here

For quilters who are trying to be more eco-friendly in their sewing practices, Two Thimbles does carry YLI quilting thread, typically used for hand quilting, that comes on a wooden spool.

Another thread favorite, Aurifil is taking measures to be an environmentally conscious company. They have partnered with an organization whose main objective is to eliminate plastic in our oceans. Though their spools and cones are still plastic based, Aurifil is taking measures to help eliminate their plastic use! To learn more about their efforts, visit their website here

We recycle plastic wrap that encloses new fabric bolts shipped from several companies as well as the empty cardboard bolts.  We'd like to see more fabric companies skip the plastic wrap - one of our points to bring up at quilt market this year in Houston when I mingle with fabric reps and company owners!

1800's Fabric Collection

Our 1800's Reproduction fabric room features a new display! See the connection between antique machinery including antique sewing machines and fabric from the same time period! From 1898, Montgomery Ward & Co. had a ten-year warranty on their sewing machines. This new display is brought to us by Jane, who shared this combination of vintage and salvaged items at the Farm and Tractor show this past summer. Come take a look!  It's fun to compare some of these original antique fabrics with what's on our shelves today...!

Did You Know?!

Did you know that you can reserve the 2T Classroom?  Yep, you sure can!  For $5 per stitcher (groups of 3 or more) reserve the day and you can hold a stitching retreat with your friends in our expanded (and now air-conditioned for those warm summer days) classroom space.

We've got some flexible table space, the same great design walls...and a few comments that we've even turned up the lights!  It's nice to spend the day stitching with friends, get away from household and family obligations and not have to pack your overnight bag!

Reservations and deposit are required to ensure we've got the space you need.   Call the shop or email to check availability and to reserve your next sew date!

Where everybody knows your name!?  A group of happy 2T "regulars" working on their UFOs and WIPs.

Lucy Boston Sample and New Reproduction Fabrics

One of our 2T regulars, Evelyn, has loaned another quilt to enhance our shop displays!  We appreciate her amazing workmanship and productivity and generosity in sharing her results with us!

This EPP project - based on the original Lucy Boston quilt - is all about the fabric!  We love all the different combination of reproduction fabrics, the varying color coordinations are beautiful and each block is unique and special. A closer look at the quilt itself shows Evelyn spent lots of time fussy cutting. We're excited to have this quilt on display, come take a look! Get some inspiration for your next project, perhaps?

Also new to our reproduction room....more fabric! We have the brand new County Clare collection designed by Karen Styles.  This line includes the gorgeous focal panel (1.25 yards, each block is 8.5 inches).  This is going to be showcased in lots of projects and we can't wait for Karen's upcoming Quiltmania book.  Now is the time to embrace some broderie perse applique I'm thinking!

We've also added the Moire collection by Di-Ford for Andover which are some wonderful textural solids that would be a fabulous addition to any stash, but these colors are made for combining with reproduction fabrics and we haven't seen anything quite like them...

Hope's Journey Update

Our Hope's Journey class has been meeting for nine months now and we only have a few more class dates left! Hope's Journey is Betsy Chutchian's most recent book, it focuses on classic blocks, reproduction quilts and stories of pioneer days. We've loved seeing our fellow quilters create a new mini quilt each month, and work towards a bigger quilt adding blocks each month.  Take a look at some of the projects over these past nine months!

We have everything you need to start your own Hope's Journey! Come take a look at the book and 2T curated small quilt kits for each chapter thus far.
